Rwanda Emergency Food Distribution Report

by Good News International

It was on the 14th of March 2020 when Rwanda recorded the first positive case of covid-19. From that day the situation has changed in all sectors of life in Rwanda.

In order to protect its citizens against the rapid spread of Covid-19, the government of Rwanda immediately announced lockdown. The schools were closed and students returned home. Churches and places of worship were also closed. All activities and movements came to a standstill with the exception of essential personnel such as those in the medical service, the military, police, and those involved in food production.

Our Good News beneficiaries were among the most to suffer at that time. With support from Comfort International, GNI were able to support 90 families who were in a critical state of need. They tried to help as many people as they could because almost every one of their beneficiaries were suffering.

Food insecurity is one of the major effects of COVID-19 on poorer families in Rwanda and may last several months after lockdown. The food GNI have provided to their beneficiaries has helped in these most difficult times, ensuring some security as they try to resume with normal life.

On behalf of all beneficiary families who received food, they send their gratitude and special thanks to their Comfort International family and friends, for your generosity and compassion. The support you gave has saved the lives of many.
