Sponsored Survivor’s Song Remembering the Genocide
Manzikazi’s Story
Manzikazi is one of our sponsored survivors who is part of the Solace Ministries family. During the genocide she lost all of her parents, siblings and wider family. She eventually married and has two children but her husband left her when she became ill. She recently sent a link to a song, Nararokotse (I survived), that she recorded which remembers the people and the events of the genocide.
This is what she says: “I recorded this song after being discharged from the hospital where I had brain surgery, and at that time my husband left me and the kids, they were very young (2018).
At that time nurses and doctors told me that I had thrombosis problem in my head, I was suffering and hopeless that I was going to die. By thinking about how I am the only survivor from my family that if I die my family will not exist anymore, I encouraged myself and believe in God that I have to survive. In those struggles and hopeless situations that’s when I wrote and recorded that song. Even though I am still struggling and suffering with the children alone, I have hope that God has a plan for me.”
