Hand in hand with Solace Ministries

Solace Ministries was one of the first partners that we ever worked with from the birth of Comfort International (or Comfort Rwanda as it was then) in 1999. Over the last 25 years we have been working together, led by Solace’s compassion and insight. Over this time, many houses have been built, genocide survivors supported, counselled and rooted in communities, income-generating projects initiated, pensioners cared for and much more. We wanted to let you know in a little more detail about the work of Solace Ministries, particularly over last year.

Florence from Solace wrote to us to tell us about all the amazing things Comfort International and Solace Ministries achieved together last year. She wrote, “In the year 2023, Solace Ministries in partnership with Comfort International has supported 48 beneficiaries (under SOS – sponsor an orphan or survivor), 30 of whom are women. It has also supported 44 elderly people of whom 6 are men in the Rukumberi community. Solace Ministries and Comfort International carry out various activities to support the community. The year 2023 was marked by several initiatives aimed at providing support and care to those in need.

Annual reports, letters and pictures

In the months of February and March 2023, those who benefit from sponsorship from Comfort International provided regular updates and pictures to keep sponsors informed about the progress and impact of their support. The reports include different content such as general updates about life in general, challenges faced in the last year of 2022 and how they overcame them, successful achievements in the last year and future plans. These updates served as a means of transparency and accountability, allowing sponsors to witness the tangible outcomes of their contributions.

New Sponsorship

An expansion of sponsorship demonstrated a growing commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those in need. In the year of 2023, we were privileged to have a new sponsorship for Mutoni Vestine.

Sponsorship for Beneficiaries

Comfort International plays a significant role in supporting Orphan–Headed Households; this has been a lifeline for those facing the challenges of life. 47 beneficiaries received sponsorship every three months. This consistent support played a crucial role in meeting the essential needs and improving their overall well-being.

Comfort Team Visit in Rwanda

Comfort International’s team visit in July and October 2023 to Solace Ministries was a helpful opportunity for both the sponsors and the individuals plus the communities they support. It promotes a stronger connection between sponsors and the person they sponsor, it promotes collaboration between organisations, and raises awareness about the challenges faced by vulnerable people. Making the visit has a significant impact on the lives of the people they serve and inspires others to act in support of their cause.

Distribution of Sponsorship to Elderly People in Rukumberi Community

In September 2023, Solace Staff conducted a community visit to Rukumberi community
to distribute the sponsorship to the targeted 44 elderly people among other members of the community. The care and attention given to the elderly people from your support have not only met their basic needs but have also brought warmth and companionship into their lives.

Payment of School Fees for 16 TVET Students

Solace Ministries in partnership with
Comfort international has recognised the importance of education and so made the payment of school fees for 16 TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) students. By investing in education, they sought to equip young people with the knowledge and skills necessary for a brighter future. This will help those students in seeking job opportunities, practical skills development, faster entry into the work force, economic stability and entrepreneurial opportunities.

House Renovation

Many people facing financial difficulties or other hardships often find themselves living in damaged and unsecure housing that is not conducive to their wellbeing. Comfort support has been helpful in enabling Solace Ministries to carry out house renovations that are helpful in providing a safe and secure shelter for the needy family.

Challenges

There are still people in need on our waiting list. Many people are still facing the consequences of the Genocide against Tutsi that happened in Rwanda in 1994. It is evident that these individuals, who may be classified as “needy” due to their circumstances, are facing unique challenges that require our attention and support. The trauma and loss they have endured can have long-lasting effects on their physical and mental wellbeing. To address this issue effectively, we propose that we focus on providing comprehensive assistance to these individuals. This could include access to counselling services to help them heal from their traumatic experiences. Additionally, supporting them with education and skillbuilding programs could empower them to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities.”

We are proud to be working with Solace Ministries on so many valuable projects which focus on community, restoration and future. There are still many in Rwanda in need of support, and we hope to bless as many as we can, continuing to work through our amazing local partners who are the best people to guide us and establish the way forward. Thank you for your continued support of Comfort International and Solace Ministries projects.
