It has been a long time coming but the day has arrived. Thursday 13th January 2022 saw the first bulldozer move in to clear and level the land where the Comfort Transformation Centre will be built. This is a historic day which follows a vision from the Comfort Rwanda team for a centre where many more extremely poor children, young people and vulnerable mums & babies can be loved, cared for and encouraged in their journey to become who God created them to be and also from where the local community can be served.
This vision started Comfort Rwanda and Comfort International on a path which has hadto navigate; refining the details of the vision, obtaining permission, finding and purchasing land, creating architectural plans, applying for planning permission, registering the project for tax relief which greatly reduces the cost of materials, and raising the necessary funds to start. It has been long and, in some cases, frustratingly slow. Many Comfort International supporters caught this vision, even in its infancy, and have sown into it financially, in prayer and in sharing it with others. It has been a team effort.
Prior to the “Ground Breaking Day”, Gasana David and the team at Comfort Rwanda mobilised a group, including young people from the projects and previous project members and some of the mums, to remove the vegetation so as to allow the bulldozer to freely navigate the site. They worked hard and accomplished much. They also joined together with prayer and rejoicing as they dedicated the land and the future centre to God.
The levelling of the land and the excavation for a septic tank are being overseen by a local engineer to make sure that everything is done correctly. While this process is being completed there will also be time set aside for making bricks. A small house which is currently present on the land will be used to store building materials.
As the work progresses please continue to pray, support and share the vision. This is an exciting project that could impact many, many people.
