South Sudan Update

The following report has been prepared by our partners Comfort Rwanda who help the local team oversee the project.

Health and Nutrition Support

Health and nutrition are essential to children’s growth, stability, and long-term development. Throughout 2025, all supported children received timely medical care and nutritional assistance whenever they fell ill, ensuring quick recovery and continuity in their daily lives.

Food provision continues to play a vital role in the growth of the project and the healthy development of the children. Children regularly receive nutritious food to take home for family cooking, helping to strengthen household food security.

The most common illnesses reported during the year were malaria, stomach ache, and typhoid. Every child who became unwell was promptly treated and closely supported by the project team until full recovery. In line with medical advice, children were also provided with adequate nutrients to support faster healing.

Health Support Testimonies:

Apiath: “I fell sick with malaria, and the team helped take me to the hospital for medical check-ups and treatment. I received medication and I am now doing much better.”

Acholl: “When I suffered from typhoid, I was given treatment, and later I became much better.”

Agot: “I was suffering from a stomach ache and was taken to the hospital for treatment. I am very happy with how I was cared for, and I later recovered.”

Joseph: I had severe headaches and malaria. When I approached the team, they took me to the hospital and I was treated.”

Summer Group Visits

During 2025, groups from Comfort International visited South Sudan, strengthening relationships through cultural exchange, friendship, and shared activities. These visits created meaningful connections between visitors, children, and families, while also providing practical support and encouragement.

The presence of visiting teams brought joy, hope, and a strong sense of belonging to the children and their communities. Shared activities fostered fun, learning, and mutual understanding.

Visit Testimonies

William: “I was very happy to see the teams who visited because they helped construct a house for me and my grandmother. It touched my heart deeply.”

Queen: “I was filled with joy during the team visits because of the activities we did together. It was so much fun. I also had the chance to practise my English, and my speaking has improved.”

Jima: “Spending time with the Comfort International team has been the best experience of my life. We lived a lonely life before, but God brought people into our lives and many things have changed. I loved practising English with the team, and in 2025 I spent time with the Comfort International Director learning English and getting to know each other better.”

Connection Through Sponsor Letters

Letter communication continued to serve as a powerful emotional bridge between children and their sponsors. These letters help children feel loved, remembered, and encouraged, strengthening their emotional wellbeing and motivation.

Jim: “I was very happy to receive a letter from my sponsor, Peter Hagenbuch. I felt encouraged and loved.”

Project Graduates

In 2025, six children graduated from the project through family reintegration after their families were traced and expressed willingness to care for them. This is a significant milestone, as family support plays a crucial role in a child’s growth and development. Many supported children have experienced family separation, and reunifying them with their families has had a positive and lasting impact.

Spiritual Growth

Spiritual development continues to be a central pillar of the South Sudan Project. Children regularly gather for Bible study, prayer, worship, and fellowship. These activities have strengthened their faith, confidence, discipline, and sense of hope, while encouraging positive values and mutual support. In addition, children attend different local churches to further support their spiritual growth.

Education Support

Education remains a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty in South Sudan. In 2025, all children supported by the project accessed formal education. A total of 49 students received education support, with children attending both primary and secondary school.

The project provided comprehensive educational assistance, including school fees, uniforms, books, pens, and other essential learning materials. This support ensured consistent school attendance and improved motivation to learn. Despite the many challenges facing the education system in South Sudan, continued support from Comfort International has enabled children to attend school and access meals during times of widespread hunger, helping them to remain focused on their studies.

Education Testimonies

“I am so happy to have received school materials from the project. This motivated me to work hard at school.”

Yom(Primary One): She scored 73.7%.

“I am trying my best because I receive everything I need from the project. Whenever school asks for anything, we get it quickly, which helps my studies.”

Achok (Primary Seven): She scored 69%.

“It feels amazing to reach Primary Seven. I never thought it would be possible because of life’s struggles. Now I receive all the school materials I need and I am very happy that I lack nothing at school.”

Message from the Project Mother

“2025 was a year of blessing in my life. I was given land, and the project provided funds to build a house. This enabled me to care for the children while having a place I can call home. I ensure that children without parents have a safe place to sleep, food to eat, and access to all basic needs for their wellbeing.”

In 2025, Comfort South Sudan made significant progress in improving the wellbeing of sponsored children through integrated support in health, nutrition, education, spiritual growth, and emotional care. The absence of malnutrition, consistent access to education, strengthened faith, and meaningful connections with sponsors reflect the positive impact of the project.

These achievements would not have been possible without the continued support of Comfort International and its dedicated partners. As we move forward, Comfort South Sudan remains committed to sustaining and expanding these efforts to ensure that every supported child continues to grow in health, hope, dignity, and opportunity.
