Burundi remains one of the hardest to access and poorest countries in the world, but our partners in Comfort Burundi do a wonderful job working with street kids and their families towards transformation and new life. Through sponsorship, our partners help vulnerable children access education, health care, safe accommodation and re-integration with families where appropriate. They also work closely with the families to develop income-generating skills and activities, helping the whole family move towards a place of self-sustainability. When the family reaches a point where they no longer need the support of the charity, they graduate from the programme, and one such recent graduate from the Nyabunyegeri project is Richard, along with his family.Â
Coming up to his graduation, Richard wrote to us, “This is a very special moment for me because of the gratitude that I have in my heart. Thank you so much for all that you have done for me through the past years.
I remember my life before joining the project was not good at all because my father had died a few years ago and he was the one the whole family was relying on so this turned everything at home upside down, none of the children at home continued with going to school because my mum was not capable of paying my school fees and also get other basic needs.”
“I am thankful that joining the project has helped me to go school, it has helped me to get food to eat, it has given to have access to health insurance and also medical support, my behavior has changed and become better because of the advice I have always received from the core team here.
My mum has been supported with start-up support to carry out pig grazing and she has also been able to add in more income through rice cultivation. I believe that this is a turning point for my family.”
Richard goes on to write, “I am so thankful for the impact that your sponsorship has brought to me and my family. It is because of the project financial support that my mother has been able to graze pigs and also carry out rice cultivation. Our family is very thankful for the love and support that you have given to us.
We love you and we shall forever cherish the love and support.”
Sponsorship has made a huge difference, not only to Richard, but to his whole family. For £30 a month, you can change the life of a child sleeping on the streets or unable to access healthcare or education. Click the link below to find out more about sponsorship.Â
